Lecture - 20th Jan - Dr Hugh Willmot - Excavations at Thornton Abbey

Senior Lecturer in European Historical Archaeology, School of History, Philosophy and Digital Humanities, University of Sheffield and Archaeological Advisor to the Diocese of Sheffield, Hugh is a leading expert in monastic landscapes.  Between 2011 and 2016, he led excavations at Thornton Abbey in North Lincolnshire, particularly around the Medieval hospital. Discoveries included the mass grave of victims of the Black Death which devasted Europe in the mid-14th century.
