PETER CONNELLY - THE SOUTH BLOCK HOUSE PROJECT - WEDNESDAY 21 DECEMBER 22

We are looking forward to welcoming Peter Connelly to ERAS to give a presentation on the latest findings from the South Block House excavations in Hull. Over the summer members of ERAS have enjoyed the opportunity to excavate with Humber Field Archaeology on the South Block House project. A Scheduled Ancient Monument, this once formed part of the defences built on the orders of Henry VIII, between 1541 - 43. It has a unique clover leaf shape and was built to guard the harbour mouth and River Hull. Subsequently it was used as a prison and eventually extended in the later 17th century. Peter Connelly worked for many years for the York Archaeological Trust leading the Hungate Excavation team and is now Manager of Humber Field Archaeology.

Entry is free for ERAS members. A small charge of £2 is payable for guests. The presentation will be streamed digitally for ERAS members only for those unable to attend.
